The Twisters family is incredibly proud to celebrate Gary Anderson and Randy Sikora on their induction into the USA Gymnastics Region 8 Hall of Fame.
This prestigious honor recognizes two individuals whose influence extends far beyond medals and championships. Through decades of leadership, mentorship, and service, Gary and Randy have helped shape not only the sport of gymnastics, but also the lives of countless athletes, coaches, and families.
Gary Anderson’s impact on gymnastics spans an incredible 67 years. A former USA Men’s National Team member, NCAA All-American, international coach, educator, gym owner, and longtime USA Gymnastics leader, Gary has dedicated his career to developing athletes, mentoring coaches, and strengthening the sport at every level. His service has included coaching Team USA internationally, serving on the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors, leading elite athlete development, speaking at national congresses, and, for the past 20 years, sharing his knowledge and passion with everyone at Twisters.
Randy Sikora’s journey began as a young gymnast before becoming a coach, entrepreneur, and respected leader in the gymnastics industry. At just 20 years old, he purchased Boca Twisters, later expanded the organization with American Twisters, founded USA Competitions, and has spent more than two decades serving USA Gymnastics through leadership, education, and event management. Today, the Twisters organization serves more than 2,500 students each week and continues to grow with the opening of our third location this August.
While their accomplishments earned them a place in the Hall of Fame, it was their acceptance speeches that reminded everyone why they are so deserving of this honor.
Gary had the audience laughing from the very beginning. He joked about his wife, Elayne, sending him to get coffee on “his special day,” only to have him wait 40 minutes in the Starbucks line before eventually losing the vote on where they would eat lunch. The laughter continued as he shared a story about his 12-year-old daughter, Elianna, proudly introducing him to AI. After hearing a song she had “written”, Gary thought he might be raising the next Taylor Swift until she casually admitted, “Oh Dad… it’s AI.”
She even suggested he let AI write his Hall of Fame acceptance speech.
Gary laughed as he recalled asking, “Isn’t that cheating?” before explaining that gymnastics has never been about shortcuts. It’s about hard work, trying again, repetition, and earning success through perseverance.
At that moment, Gary hung a hand-drawn red heart over the front of the podium and spoke from exactly that.
Reflecting on his 67 years in gymnastics, he thanked the gymnastics community for allowing him to remain part of the sport he loves. He spoke about the incredible leaders he has served alongside and reminded everyone that the greatest impact we make isn’t through titles or awards, but through the people we influence every day.
His closing message left the room in tears.
Gary acknowledged that AI can certainly write beautiful words, but it can never celebrate a child’s first day in gymnastics, calm their fears before learning a new skill, or experience the pride and emotion of watching an athlete sign a college scholarship. Those moments belong to coaches. They belong to people. It was a beautiful reminder that while technology continues to evolve, nothing can replace the heart, compassion, and human connection that define great coaching.
Then, in true Gary fashion, he closed with one final joke, thanking USA Gymnastics for recognizing him “while I’m still alive,” bringing the room from tears back to laughter.
Randy’s acceptance speech carried a different tone but was equally powerful.
He shared that one of the first things he did after arriving was look through the Hall of Fame brochure of recipients. As he read the names of those who had been inducted before him, he couldn’t help but wonder, “What am I doing here?” He spoke about the coaches and leaders who came before all of us, saying they are the reason today’s gymnastics community continues to thrive. They taught, they shared, they inspired, and they built the foundation that so many continue to build upon today.
Randy then turned his attention to Tim and Toni Rand, thanking them for believing in a 20-year-old young coach who walked into their office with the idea of buying one of their gyms. Looking back, Randy laughed at the confidence he had at that age, calling it “just insane.” The audience responded with both laughter and heartfelt applause, recognizing the tremendous influence Tim and Toni have had on the gymnastics community.
He also shared one of Tim Rand’s greatest lessons, one that continues to guide him every day: “Every day you do something right, every day you screw up, and every day you’re going to learn something.” Randy explained that this simple philosophy has shaped not only his own leadership, but also the culture of the Twisters organization.
Randy went on to say that while he wasn’t sure he was deserving of the award, he had learned one thing really well throughout his career: choosing the right people to surround himself with. He thanked the Region 8 leadership for their countless hours of service, recognized his wife, Kelly, for supporting him through every step of the journey, and shared the gratitude he so deeply has for the Twisters staff.
One of the most touching moments of the evening came when Randy began speaking about Gary Anderson.
With perfect timing, he joked that the only thing Gary has ever failed at is retiring, drawing one of the biggest laughs of the night. He shared how Gary initially planned to consult at Twisters after moving to Florida but instead became a full-time member of the organization and, 20 years later, is still inspiring everyone around him.
Randy described Gary as not only a mentor, but an idol and a hero. He said Gary’s passion, relentless work ethic, and unwavering dedication are what inspire him to put on his shoes every morning and come to work. It was a heartfelt tribute from one Hall of Fame inductee to another and one that perfectly captured the respect Gary has earned throughout his remarkable career.
The evening was filled with laughter, applause, and more than a few tears. More importantly, it was a celebration of leaders who have dedicated their lives to giving back to the sport they love.
